THE EDITOR, Sir:
The attention of the National Works Agency (NWA) needs to be drawn to sections of the Passage Fort Housing Scheme that are now in urgent need of repairs. Portmore Drive, which is part of a major bus route, needs quick attention.
The very bad sections extend from the eastern end to the junction with Augusta Drive. Some dry marl has been placed in numerous potholes, but does not remain in them for long. Benbow Avenue, also part of a JUTC bus route, should also be repaired urgently. There is a big hole extending all across the road affecting all motorists. Other sections of the thoroughfare (corridor) require quick attention.
Grave danger
The pedestrian crossings also need repainting/re-marking, most urgent attention to be focused on the one connecting Passage Fort to Portsmouth. The school children who attend Portsmouth Primary are exposed to grave danger in attempting to go across to either of these two communities. The pedestrian crossing in front of the Portmore Mall is a danger to motorists and pedestrian alike. Is it that someone has to be killed or injured at these two pedestrian crossings before they are repainted/re-marked?
The white material for the repainting/re-marking was made available before the last general election. Why the delay in carrying out the work? It is hoped that the NWA will make its presence seen in the Passage Fort Housing Scheme.
I write on behalf of the Passage Fort Citizens' Association.
I am, etc.,
