Elderly men and teenagers
published: Wednesday | January 30, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I am very much against elderly men getting involved with teenagers. I am always crying out against such acts, and if I ever decide to maximise my potential by acting upon my political endeavours, that is one thing that I would most definitely try to eliminate in my country, Jamaica. The common trend needs to be stopped.

The prevalence of taxi drivers getting involved with 'high schoolers', elderly men using their influence and popularity to subdue young women and teenagers is heart-wrenching. Something must be done!

Parents need to teach their girls to resist the influence of others, and elders and influential artistes like Beenie Man need to set an example for youths, both girls and boys, in the country.

I have seen and observed one too many of my fellow Jamaican young women, both in Jamaica and in the diaspora, fall prey to these types of situations. A teenager, young man or woman, should be focused on education, bettering themselves and their community. We as a country need to evolve, Jamaican women need to evolve. Women are now doing it for themselves, Jamaican women are very much capable of the same.

I am, etc.,
