The Editor, Sir:The projected opening of the Isaac Barrant International Airport (suggested name) at Duckenfield, St Thomas (2011) will bring not only great economic benefit to St. Thomas and Portland, but to Jamaica overall.
In addition, the industrial park in western St Thomas now in its nascent stage will also benefit as the 8,000-foot projected runway will also accommodate cargo planes to supply and take export from the western St Thomas Industrial Park.
Further, this newly projected international airport will facilitate greatly the hotel to be built at Holland Bay we have not heard anything further on the hotel since groundbreaking took place.
Economic wealth
Economic development is the development of economic wealth of countries or regions for the well-being of their inhabitants. From a policy perspective, economic development can be defined as efforts that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community by creating and/or retaining jobs and supporting or growing incomes and the tax base (Wikipedia).
As such, regardless of the legacy of the PNP, JLP thinking (modernist/post-modernist model) and economic development, actions in this respect are dead on.
