When guest comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat took to the stage of the Courtleigh Auditorium last Sunday night as the final act many were surprised that the 2007 Comedy Buss winner Dwight Samuels and Christopher 'Johnny' Daley did not perform as scheduled at 'Comedy Fest 2008.'
As a long night of comedy drew to an end, impatient patrons filed out of the auditorium before the show was finished.
While some acts were impressive and the crowd overall seemed to enjoy the comedians, a number of jokes were stale. After a half-hour- late start the show kicked off with Jamaica's Steve Urkle who came on stage in a dazzling blue sequinned blazer.
Urkle tickled the crowd with his sexual innuendoes and mastery of popular culture. However, some of the most refreshing moments came from emcees Mas Jaspar and Cleve 'Chu Chu' Warren who had the crowd in stitches.
'Chu chu' dance off
The two emcees complimented each other ... changed outfits numerous times, challenged Jaspar to a dance off with Jaspar showcasing his 'butterfly' to Chu Chu's 'tick-tock wine'.
Comedy Bus contestant Leighton Smith followed, which brought a few riotous laughs along with Dufton Shepherd.
Bobby Smith of Royal Palm Estate fame had the best response from the first section as he warned the men to take out their pens and paper and take notes on how to watch for female cheaters.
Smith emphasised that a woman's brain is like a computer that stores information to use against her man - months, sometimes years later.
Gunter came on to a Twins of Twins sample impressing the crowd with this vocal imitations.
Gunter created a storm
His 'weather forecast' touched on homosexual issues as the crowd was wowed by his inventiveness. Next up was Granny, who wowed the crowd without saying a word. Using dance and music Granny was fresh and original dancing to songs such as Tek Weh Yuhself, a slew of Beenie Man hits, Stookie and many more. Granny wined up her 'assets' in a suggestive manner as she went down low and up again.
As the song Blacker's Tek Off Someting played Granny took off wig after wig and flashed the crowd.
Lemon followed as he showed off his 'tidy whites' to his adoring female fans. Grandfather and Son laughed as Grandfather continually insulted his 'Son' showing off his dance moves as well.
Patrons began filing out of the auditorium in steady streams after 11:00 p.m. until Ity and Fancy Cat took the stage.
The duo looked dapper and full of energy with their jokes touching on Reneto Adams among others.
