NOTE-WORTHY: Alter the rules
published: Wednesday | January 30, 2008

Alter the rules

The decision that Mr Lynch is proposing is the fair and correct way forward. The thing the head and the minister need to understand and come to realistic terms with is that the kids are having sex and no matter what is preached at this moment it will continue.

Sometimes the rules have to b to cure the situation. The sexual activities cannot be stopped but the greater problem of under-age pregnancy, uncured HIV and the set-up of a failing future not just to themselves but to the entire country and beyond can be limited drastically.

Do the head and the minister want to have the situation of a South Africa or of many African countries on our hands?

Think about it, it would be fatal.

Pensioners' plight

With incessant increases in the cost of living; basic food items, utilities, fuel etc., the government pensioners are at a great disadvantage and we are unable to cope with the magnitude of the increases, especially those of us who retired since 1990.

The time has come for the powers that be to look at indexation as proposed by the Jamaica Government Pensioners Association. The economic reality dictates that government pensioners can no longer wait and live on empty promises.

We, the government pensioners, are asking that the matter be addressed now, before many of us fade away. The time to act is now.

Thanks to many

Please allow me to use this medium to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the many men and women who intervened in rescuing my friend, Mrs. Beryl Buchanan, from the jaws of death.

I would like to thank the many physicians and health-care professionals at the Mandeville Regional Hospital for the professional medical attention that was administered to Beryl.

Special commendation and praises to Drs Vascianne, James, Brown and McIntosh who all worked on her, especially during two major surgeries.

Mrs Buchanan was injured when a bus in a joint JCF/JDF convoy crashed into her vehicle on the Porus main road on Monday, January 21.

Mayoral pension

Re The Sunday Gleaner article about mayors living without a pension, you have got to be kidding. Which other group of persons work for three years and get a pension?

Everybody's work is important. I worked for six years with the Government and am told I cannot get a pension.

Get real.
