August Town edged Sporting Central Academy 2-1 in their Cash Plus Premier League game at Brancourt yesterday, increasing their tally to 20 points.
"We have been playing quality football for the longest while now but it's just that we have not been scoring goals," said Hugh McCarthy, coach of August Town. "However, we have been working on goalscoring for the last week and we have seen it bearing its fruits somewhat, so we just have to continue to work on getting shots to goal and finishing on target."
Sporting, who remained on 25 points, started with a bang when Ian Palmer scored in the ninth minute after catching August Town defenders flat-footed midway their own half and sped away to knock the ball past custodian Devon Haughton.
August Town earned a free kick on the edge of Sporting's penalty box four minutes from the break and Daniel Shaw scored from a tame ball rolled into the box to level the scores at the 41st minute.
Both teams came out attacking and displaying quality football for the second half, but August Town pushed themselves into the lead in the 49th minute when Tremaine Stewart picked up a ball and slammed a sizzling shot over the head of goalkeeper Leighton Murray.
