SUBSTITUTE Jermaine Taylor last night fired leaders Tivoli Gardens into the second-round final of the Cash Plus Premier League with a 90th-minute goal, handing his side a 2-1 win over defending champions Harbour View at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Taylor's goal followed penalty kicks scored by either side in the second half as Oraine Simpson opened the scoring for Tivoli from the spot in the 67th minute and Clifton Waugh equalised for 10-man Harbour View seven minutes from time.
The win pushed Tivoli to 22 second-round points, three more than Waterhouse, with one game to decide finalists for the cash-incentive final.
Waterhouse stayed stuck on 19 points after being upset 0-2 at home by relegation-zone side Village United.
Harbour View, third in the round on 16 points, will seek a home win against Arnett Gardens for an outside shot at advancing on goal difference.
Tivoli three points up
Meanwhile, Tivoli's deserved win also pushed them three points clear in the overall standings to 40 points, three ahead of Portmore United, who played to their third straight draw, 1-1 at Arnett Gardens.
Tivoli came out strong against Harbour View, getting two clear chances in the first half.
The homesters frustrated Harbour View into five cautions, the fourth of which earned them a penalty in the 67th minute when Richard Edwards was ejected on a second yellow, called for tripping Navian Boyd in the box. Oraine Simpson made no mistake from the spot.
However, 10-man Harbour View equalised from the spot in the 83rd when Christopher Jackson handled substitute Robert Scarlett's cross from the left flank.
Christopher Waugh buried the spot kick, but Harbour View continued to press with nine men and paid the price when goalie Kerr needlessly rushed way off his line and was easily beaten by Taylor, who booted into an empty goal from 20-odd yards.
