Boys' Town win at last
published: Monday | January 28, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Boys' Town, after failing to win in their previous six games in this round of the Cash Plus Premier League, broke the jinx with a 1-0 victory over St Georges Sports Club at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

Playing without six of their key players, including top goalscorer Damion Harwood, St Georges have landed into a goalless spell and have now lost their last four matches and remain on 26 points. Boys' Town have increased their tally to 26.

In the first half, both teams held their form with each coming close to scoring. Anthony Dawes, Oneil McDonald and Michael Campbell led the charge for Boys' Town in the half, while Gary Banton, Omar Henderson and Dale Wallace delivered vigilant attacks for St Georges.

But Boys' Town were determined that they would not be beaten on their home ground as McDonald, three minutes into the second half, scored to give his team the lead.

Donovan Duckie, coach of St Georges, blames the loss of his key players for the team's lacklustre performance.

"For four of our last games we have been playing without our full team and this has definitely taken its toll on us. We have players that can be replaced but for five of our regular starters to be out, it is very difficult. We have to definitely continue to work hard," Duckie said.

Boys' Town's coach Andrew Price happy that his team has returned to winning ways, is disappointed they're still unable to convert more scoring opportunities.

"There wasn't any major change today. We have been playing the same way for the last four weeks - dominating teams and not scoring. Luckily, we were able to get a goal here today," Price said. "We really have to improve on that if we want to be competitive in this league."
