Lloyd captures 400m at Norwich Union meet
published: Monday | January 28, 2008

GLASGOW, Scotland (CMC):

Jamaican Shereefa Lloyd landed the women's 400 metres to log the lone Caribbean victory at the Norwich Union International indoor track and field meeting on Saturday night.

Lloyd returned a time of 53.08 seconds to win the event easily ahead of the USA international Monique Hennagan (54.56).

There were also top three results for her Jamaican teammates Aleen Bailey and Korine Hinds.

Bailey, a member of Jamaica's sprint relay gold medal winning side at the Athens Olympics in 2004, clocked 24.16 seconds for third in the women's 200 metres chasing American Shareese Woods (23.76) and Britain's Joice Maduaka (24.04).

Hinds grabbed second in the women's 1500 metres, clocking four minutes 19.48 seconds behind the British winner Lisa Dobrinsky (4:16.30).

Swedish star impressive

The Swedish star Susanna Kallur was one of the most impressive winners on the night. She clocked 7.81 seconds in the women's 60-metre hurdles for her quickest ever season-opener and sixth consecutive win here.

The USA's World Championships finalist Lolo Jones was a distant second in 8.05.

American David Oliver won the men's 60-metre hurdles in 7.60 seconds with Jamaican Richard Phillips fourth in 7.76.

Grenada's two-time world indoor champion Alleyne Francique was disqualified and placed last in the men's 400 metres that Britain's Richard Buck won in 47.76 seconds. Francique placed third originally but was relegated to last because of a lane infringement.

"I noticed the flag went up and I knew something was wrong, so I just ran through," Francique said.
