WHAT'S NOT WORKING?
Several arterial streets which serve as feeders on to Molynes Road, one of the major thoroughfares in Kingston's metropolis, are in shambles.
Last year, Tyrone's Watch focused on Seaward Drive - a popular shortcut to evade the congestion - and its offshoots which were littered with potholes. But potholes on Seaward Drive are a recurring decimal and ad hoc patchwork holds just long enough until a few showers undo the repairs.
As expected, the pothole cancer has spread to other escape routes from the bustling city streets such as Bay Farm Road, Mimosa Avenue and Sundown Crescent.
WHO'S RESPONSIBLE?
The National Works Agency (NWA) and the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).
WHAT'S THE STATUS?
Norman Shand, KSAC city engineer, said the council has not received any complaints about Mimosa Avenue and Sundown Crescent, for which it has oversight responsibility, but sought to assure Tyrone's Watch that the matter would be probed soon.
Bay Farm Road falls under the purview of the NWA. Stephen Shaw, NWA communication manager, while explaining that there were no complaints on record for Bay Farm Road, told The Gleaner yesterday in an emailed response, "We are currently doing some work in the Olympic Gardens area and will look at this stretch within the limitations of our patching programme."
Conclusion
Well, for what it's worth, Mimosa Avenue and Sundown Crescent will be 'looked at' - hopefully. The status of Bay Farm Road is uncertain. However, as has been said repeatedly, these ramshackle roads must be fixed and the longer we wait to get the ball rolling, the worse they get.
