Arnett push for crucial points today
published: Wednesday | January 16, 2008

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

STRUGGLING ARNETT Gardens will have exactly 32 minutes to claim a desperately needed three points against St. Georges when the first of two rescheduled Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) games resumes today at the Tony Spaulding Complex at 5:00 p.m.

In the day's other game, Seba United and August Town will play 80 minutes at Jarrett Park, with that game set for a 6:00 p.m. kick-off time. Both games were postponed last week due to an islandwide power cut.

Experienced striker Kevin 'Pele' Wilson had just put the 'Junglists' back on solid footing with his close-range lob, not only leaving Georges' goalkeeper Anthoneil Williams high and dry, but also making the score 1-1 minutes before the lights went out.

Damion Harwood had tapped St. Georges into the lead from close range in the 39th minute, however the visitors looked to be on the back foot following the Arnett equaliser.

From an officiating point of view, the match will pick up exactly where it left off with all substitutions, cautions and the like being in effect.

New coach

Interestingly enough however, for Arnett it will be new coach Jerome Waite who sits on the bench when the game resumes. Waite, the man who coached the team to its most successful stint in recent times, took over from Max Straw earlier this week and obviously would love to begin his new tenure, a rescue mission so to speak, with a come-from-behind win over the visitors.

However, Georges' coach, Donovan Duckie, believes his team is prepared for a full-scale Arnett attack.

"It will be a home game for them so the logical thing especially for a team in that situation will be to gun for three points, but we know that and we are prepared for it," Duckie said.

"This restart, I think, puts the away team at a little bit of a disadvantage, preparing for just 32 minutes is just not the same as a 90-minute match, but we will make the adjustments." he said.

At Jarrett Park, hosts Seba and August Town will be looking to recover from poor recent results. On the weekend, Seba were outgunned 4-2 by defending champions Harbour View while August Town were walloped 5-0 by Portmore.
