Brissett
Village United yesterday recorded their second win of the season in the Cash Plus Premier League with a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens in the bottom of the table clash at the Elletson Wakeland Centre.
Troy Smith opened the scoring in the 20th minute from the penalty spot to give the home team a 1-0 lead and 12 minutes later it was 2-0 as Lacon Brissett fired home. Kevin Wilson scored a consolation for Arnett Gardens in the 82nd minute.
With the win, Village United increased their points tally to 13, just two behind Arnett Gardens who remain on 15.
While Village United have been improving steadily in the second round, former champions Arnett Gardens have lost all six games so far.
Taking the lead
Village took the lead when Gerald Neil used his hand to deny Ian McAnuff a certain goal as he headed a Troy Smith corner on target. Their second came when Craig White tried to beat two Village attackers while dribbling out of his goal area and was dispossessed. Brissett picked his spot and rifled home.
In the game which was sometimes physical and which saw both teams having a player ejected, Village United owed their points to goalkeeper Sheldon Brown, who kept 'out of his skin'.
In the first half alone he stopped efforts from Wilson, Horace Sharpe, Kierald McLeod, Donovan Bernard and two from Kenrick Rodriques.
Brown was finally beaten when Arnett Gardens capitalised on their better play in the dying minutes of the game with Wilson slotting home from just inside the 18-yard box.
