McKenzie off to a flying start

JAMAICA'S World Youth 200 metre champion Ramone McKenzie opened up his season at yesterday's Douglas Forrest Invitational track and field meet at the National Stadium with an easy 200m victory.

McKenzie of Calabar made his debut in Class One and had no problem in taking the 200m in 21.91 seconds. His teammates Oshane Bailey (22.23) and Jermaine Brown (22.24) were second and third.

In Class Two, another Calabar student, Earl Lee, secured the top spot in 22.52 ahead of teammate Robert Palmer ( 22.57) while Adrian Folkes of Fortis Inter-national claimed third (23.04).

Jazeel Murphy of Bridgeport won the Class Three event in 23.16 ahead of Reveraux Senior of Wolmer's ( 23.69).

Girls' events

In the girls' 200m, Yanique Haye of St. Jago took Class One in 25.69 ahead of Keisha Wallace of Wolmer's (26.64) and Monique Kelly of St. Andrew (26.69) while Samantha Elliott of Immaculate (25.04) beat Nashe Campbell of Glengoffe (25.75) and Jodi-Ann Muir of Wolmer's (26.01) in Class Two.

Printassia Johnson of Star Trackers Club out of Bahamas (25.70) beat Wolmer's Cardine Copeland (26.26) for the Class Three title, while Kissi Ann Brown of Wolmer's (26.25) beat her teammate Shanca Seymour (27.07) in Class Four.

In the long jump events, Roman Cooper of Jamaica College (6.99m) beat Dean Summer of Morant Bay ( 6.85m) in boys' Class One while Jason Lewis of Wolmer's (1.80m) took Class Two ahead of Patrick Bodice of Bahamas (1.70m).
