WESTERN BUREAU:

Dibango's 'Soul Makossa', Afro-Juju bubble and highlife dance moves depicting the rich cultural heritage and the rhythms of West Africa, were just some of the elements of the affair organised by Nigerians, Dr. Onyema Njoku and his wife Ifeoma, recently.

The two opened up their Coral Gardens, Montego Bay residence to host the end-of-year celebration of their countrymen, Jamaican friends and families, in a setting enriched with foods loaded with the Nigerian acclaimed 'Vitamin Q' (brain vitamin).

It was an afternoon of fu-fu, made from white yam or semola, complemented by egussi (pumpkin and okra soup), moi moi (red peas), cander cow (cow skin mixed with beef), garri (cassava) and yellow rice mixed with vegetables and kidney.

Jamaican jerked chicken and escoveitch fish were also included, but it was the traditional African menu that titillated the appetites.

Among the guests at the Sunday afternoon lime were: Doctors Agripa Nduka, Yum Kella Camara, Kenneth Enyi, Diane Gardevska, Hermes Madu, Delroy Fray Keith Wedderburn, Wayne Harvey, Mark Suckoo and Marcia Johnson-Campbell.
