Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller has been given a 14-day extension in which to file and serve the relevant documents in the motion she has filed against Prime Minister Bruce Golding over the dismissal of members of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
On December 28, last year, Mr. Justice Donald McIntosh gave Mrs. Simpson Miller an extension until yesterday in which to file and serve the relevant court documents. When the matter came back before the judge, yesterday, the order was not complied with.
The extension, which was granted yesterday, will give Mrs. Simpson Miller's lawyers time to prepare and serve the documents for an application for leave to go to the Judicial Review Court.
Mr. Golding's lawyers opposed the application for an extension. The judge, after giving the extension, granted leave for Mr. Golding's lawyers to appeal the matter.
Mrs. Simpson Miller had, in early December, last year, attained an injunction barring Mr. Golding from making recommendations to fill the vacancies created in December, last year, by the dismissal of the PSC members. They were fired for misbehaviour.
When the matter came before Mr. Justice McIntosh on December 28, he refused to grant an extension to bar Mr. Golding from appointing new members to the PSC. The new members were appointed on Tuesday.
