Restore the railway service
published: Tuesday | January 8, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

When are we gong to see the Jamaica Railway Corporation in full operation again? The train service for passengers is needed now more than ever.

With so many cars on the road, the everyday traffic is causing a big problem for motorists, passengers and even pedestrians. The long delays mean that people cannot get to work on time, pedestrians have difficulty crossing the streets and motorists consume more petrol, the price of which keeps rising. One solution is the practice known as carpooling whereby friends and neighbours by agreement, in turn, use one car on a particular day, instead of each person driving their own car every day. This would help to reduce the bumper-to-bumper traffic lines in the urban centres across the island.

I am, etc.,

DONALD McKOY
