Cabinet to report on investment schemes today
published: Tuesday | January 8, 2008

Government will today report on Cabinet's considerations of the steps to be taken in the interest of investors in relation to the operations of unregistered investment schemes.

Cabinet discussed the matter yesterday after Prime Minister Bruce Golding mandated the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to convene a meeting with the Attorney General and the Financial Services Commission on the weekend.

Post-Cabinet press briefing

According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday, Senator Don Wehby, Minister Without Portfolio in the Finance Ministry, will be present to discuss the matter at a post-Cabinet press briefing scheduled for 10 a.m. at Jamaica House.

Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment, Karl Samuda, will also be present to discuss Cabinet's decision relating to the application of $500 million to cushion the impact of rising prices, especially on the poor.
