PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):
Guyana's cricketers were facing an uphill battle to avoid defeat against Trinidad and Tobago in their Carib Beer Series first-round match after yesterday's third day.
T&T were dismissed for 401 in reply to Guyana's first innings total of 334, and the visitors - in arrears by 67 runs - stumbled to 128 for four in the extended day's play at the Queen's Park Oval.
Guyana lead by 61 runs with six wickets intact.
Skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan is not out on 31 and Assad Fudadin is yet to score.
Medium pacer Rayad Emrit is the leading T&T bowler with two for 35.
In his debut match as Trinidad and Tobago captain, Emrit used the overcast conditions to the fullest advantage, taking two wickets late in the afternoon to set his team on course for maximum points going into today's final day.
Earlier, T&T had resumed on their comfortable overnight position of 273 for three, with batting star Lara on 115 and the powerful Kieron Pollard on 41. The pair added a further 20 runs, before Lara gave left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul an easy return catch.
