Same story, different day: Price laments poor shooting
published: Monday | January 7, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

It may be considered as bad karma that despite the numerous chances to score, Boys' Town have yet again failed to capitalise and successfully deliver a top-class performance in the second round of the Cash Plus Premier League, as they drew 0-0 with Reno at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

Despite good passes and strong play in midfield from Boys' Town, who have now moved to 20 points, they were unable to break down the brick wall defence of the Reno team and staggered under the pressure mid-way into the first half.

In the last 10 minutes of the half, Reno's goalkeeper, Kendrie Quarrie was kept busy with numerous shots from strikers Shawn McKoy and Michael Campbell of Boys' Town.

Major setback

Reno, now on 19 points, suffered a major setback before the close of the half as star player, Patrick Graham, suffered an eye injury as a result of a collision with teammate Dwayne Williams.

Graham was immediately taken off for medical attention and will be out of action until further medical examination is conducted on his injury. He was replaced by Omar Johnson.

Good play continued into the second half but both teams failed miserably to capitalise on their goalscoring opportunities.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, expressed grave disap-pointment in his team's continued goalless performance.

"It's a scratched record. We are getting the opportunities but we are not getting goals," Price said.

"We dominated the game for the entire 90 minutes but we are just not coming up with the goals. It's really disheartening as a coach when we get these number of chances and we do not capitalise on them."

Conversion rate

He added: "We are going to have to continue working on our conversion rate. Every time we drop two points when there is an opportunity to get three it hurts us and puts us further back. I am going to continue working with the material I have here until I get some of my overseas-based players back in the club who are goal scorers and can really make a difference on the team."

Meanwhile, Aaron Lawrence former goalkeeper for the Reggae Boyz and coach of Reno, felt both teams had opportunities to score but despite the fact that the goals were not forthcoming, both teams played well.

"Both teams played well defen-sively. It is just unfortunate that we didn't score," Lawrence said.

He added: "Football is like this sometimes where we miss chances and we get chances to put goals away but it doesn't happen. We will just have to work with the draw and look at what went wrong with the game here today and prepare for our next game," he said.
