Complaint about phone service
published: Saturday | December 29, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Please allow me space in your publication to inform Mr. Phillip Green, CEO of Cable and Wireless Jamaica Ltd., of the type of service his company offers and the potential consequences to his customers.

My business almost totally depends on the telephone for survival as it is the only source of revenue generation and communication with our candidates and partners/employers. Without the telephone, we are unable to register candidates and without the Internet, we are unable to source jobs for our candidates.

accused of running away

Additionally, due to the nature of our business and the adverse publicity the industry has received over the past few months, when our candidates try to contact us and are unable to because of the phone, we are accused and rumoured of running away with people's money. This causes chaos among the candidates with some cancelling their commitment and demanding the return of their money, causing tremendous problems with our partners/employers.

We have been without telephone services during the following dates since I started keeping records: July 11-18, August 27-28, August 31-September 7, September 10-11, September 18-21, September 26-29, September 31, October 2-4, October 5-8, October 12-15, October 25-26, October 30, November 1, November 17-18, November 23-26 and December 7 to present. It is only through God's mercy why we have survived to date!

It should be pretty obvious to you, Mr. Green, that small businesses that depend on your company for telephone service cannot survive service delivery as outlined above. Your customers deserve better. Jamaica deserves better.

I am, etc.,

ANDRE BELL
