Among the major plans for the parish of Hanover is the construction of a central sewage system, according to Mayor of Lucea, Lloyd Hill.
Hill, chairman of the Hanover Parish Council, says his main focus for the New Year will be on providing the central sewage system and the completion of the Parish Development Plan for the parish.
"One or two persons have indicated an interest in actually investing in that, so we intend to establish some agreement with the national water commission where the charges can be added and the investor would collect," Hill said recently. "We are looking towards major development in the town of Lucea, which is the capital, and we need to start there to establish a proper town."
Hill said he has strong plans to develop the Lucea market as a tourist destination.
"With the construction of the Fiesta Hotel at Point, this will benefit the town," he said.
Hill was sworn in as the new mayor on Thursday, December 13, at the Lucea Parish Council.
Support
The mayor is not alone in developing the town. Theo Chambers, president of the Hanover Chamber of Com-merce said he would like to continue developing the amicable relationship between the Hanover Parish Development Committee (HPDC), Parish Council and the other elected officials and other members of civil society "to work in harmony to gain the one goal which is the development of the parish of Hanover".
He added: "I want to also lobby the Government for a bypass road for Lucea as it is getting really congested right now. I also want to lobby for a central sewage system and identify as much land as possible for construction of gated communities to deal with the influx of workers with the hotel construction, so we do not have squatters and that type of problem that plagues some communities."
