The Editor, Sir:
It seems to me that the framers of our Constitution, in their wisdom, recognised that aspects of our governance needed to be insulated as much as possible from political interference, and hence the establishing of independent service commissions to administer the affairs of specific sections (judiciary, police, public service and the like).
Despite all the obfuscation and journalistic gymnastics taking place, the sad fact is the PSC members were fired because they did not bow to the political directorate and in doing so were exercising the very independence the constitution required of them. This is blatant political interference.
Integrity and reputations
None of the other service commissions, to my knowledge has been asked or have offered to resign since the new administration was elected.
The end result is, the names, integrity and reputations of some very distinguished Jamaicans are being tarnished and sullied on th of political expediency, something other previous JLP administrations have been found guilty of.
The Prime Minister continues to demonstrate, at least to me, that his words are crafted for palatable public consumption. In this instance, I think I trust the collective judgement of these distinguished Jamaicans a lot more than I trust Mr. Golding's.
I am, etc.,
