MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, (CMC):

JAMAICAN FEMALE sprint sensation Veronica Campbell-Brown has her eyes set on winning a double at the Olympics in Beijing, China, next year.

Campbell-Brown has been reflecting on a successful track season during which she added the 100 metres World Championship title to the Olympic 200 metres gold medal she won three years ago in Athens, Greece.

"My plans for next season include winning my races leading up to Beijing and I want to run my personal best in both the 100m and 200m," she said. "However, my ultimate goal is to win the double in Beijing.

"I did my best at Worlds, but came up short of the victory in the 200m. If I say I was not disappointed, I would be lying. However, my defeat will definitely lift my motivational level as I prepare for Beijing."

Excellent season

Campbell-Brown described her season as 'excellent' and was 'totally' satisfied with the results she was able to accomplish.

"I am thankful to God that I concluded the season healthy," she said.

Second-fastest time

"The highlights for me included claiming victory in the 100m in Osaka, running somewhat close to my personal best at the national trials in the 100m (10.89), and running my second fastest 100m (10.90) in my final race of the season in Shanghai."

On the road to setting herself up for Beijing, Campbell-Brown will have breaking the national women's 100 and 200 records held by her mentor Merlene Ottey in the back of her mind. Ottey set the present marks at 10.74 and 21.64, while Campbell-Brown's personal bests in the sprints are 10.85 and 22.05.

"I really don't know how soon I can break any of the national records, but I am confident that with God's help I will do so before the end of my career," she said.

"My role model, Ms. Ottey has set the bar high, which is a good thing," he said.

"I realise the level of patience, hard work, dedication and excellent execution that will be required to break these records.

"Both the 100m and 200m are of equal importance to me. My intention is to break them both."

For now, Campbell-Brown is enjoying her new status as a wife, following her marriage to Jamaica teammate Omar Brown, the 2006 Commonwealth Games 200m champion.

Marriage

"I am enjoying my marriage so far," she said. "It is a new chapter in my life and I look forward to turning each page. My honeymoon was great. Omar and I spent it at a beach resort in Jamaica."

The only flat sprinter to win an individual gold medal at all three levels of the IAAF World Championships - senior, junior and youth - said she had spent some of her honeymoon time taking long runs with her husband.
