UWP MPs rally behind Prime Minister King
published: Thursday | December 13, 2007

CASTRIES, St. Lucia (CMC):

The United Workers Party (UWP) administration is marking its first year in office vowing to take the fight to its political opponents, while its parliamentarians are pledging full support to Prime Minister Stephenson King.

During the ruling party's first year in office there were regular reports of disunity in the Cabinet, especially in the aftermath of the September death of Prime Minister Sir John Compton when individual government parliamentarians expressed interest in leading the administration.

However, addressing the UWP's victory rally to celebrate the party's recent victory in the Micoud North constituency, government parliamentarians, in an emphatic show of unity, said they are no kinks in the administration.

Housing Minister Richard Frederick, who was initially named among MPs aspiring to lead the party, told thousands of supporters that Prime Minister King is surrounded by men who loyally support him.
