published: Wednesday | December 12, 2007

Olivia Sewell

Lucea, Hanover:

A DOUBLE strike from captain Olivia Sewell propelled defending champions Prosper to a 3-1 victory over Heartbreak in the opening game of the Lloyd H. Stewart-sponsored Steve 'Shorty' Malcolm/Denton Samuels football tournament at the Lords field in Lucea on Sunday.

Consolation goal

Prosper also benefitted from a strike by Oshane Kerr while the consolation goal for Heartbreak came from Courtney White.

Sewell told The Gleaner that he was pleased with his team's performance. He said he was sure the team would deliver on its promise to retain the championship title this year. "It was a good game," Sewell said. "My team played all-round team football and so it was a good effort. We are looking forward to retaining the trophy.

"We have a combination of young players who are very fit as they play football every evening and we also have experienced players," he said. In the second game of the day, HQ beat Cross Road 1- 0 via a goal from Richard Gordon.
