Unconvincing use of history
published: Wednesday | December 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Your associate editor Colin Steer is rather unconvincing in his use of history (Monday, December 10). Butch Stewart and Vin Lawrence deserved their respective roles as owner and member of the board of Air Jamaica.

However, to the extent that the Jamaica Tourist Board represents the interest of tourism nationally and include competing interests, to give prominence to one section of the local industry at the expense of the others is to risk a conflict of interest.

In the case of the Government's failure to appoint Prof. Stephen Vasciannie as Solicitor General, since when is a constitutional argument defeated by the history or motive of those making the argument. The argument is either valid or invalid.

I am afraid that this time around your normally balanced associate editor reads like saying his bit to support his side.

I am, etc.,
