Icah Wilmot in action. He will lead the junior surfing team.

  • Ja's best hit the waves

JAMAICA'S TOP surfers will be on show at the Lighthouse Surfing Beach when the fourth event of the Jamaica Surfing Association's National Open Championships (NOC) season surfs off today at 9:00.

Defending 2006 NOC champion, Inilek Wilmot, who has 2,400 points from the first three events after a fourth-place showing at NOC 3, has been relegated to second in the standings by his younger brother, Icah, with 2,450 points and a third-place finish at the last event.

Ishack Wilmot, who was in sparkling form - winning the last event at Copa - is currently third in the standings with 2,193 points and will be looking to that ranking. National Junior team member Ackeam Phillips is now fourth with 2,173 points after his second-place finish at the last event and is definitely a contender in the championship race.

Last year's runner-up, Luke Williams, has slipped to fifth with 2,110 points after a disappointing ninth-place showing at the Copa event and will be determined to get back into contention.

With less than 300 points separating the top five and two events to go in the series, the race is wide open.
