From left, Thomas-Shorter, Lattimore, Anderson (Pat), Long, Elliott and Anderson (Locksley).

Question: Is Herb McKenley the greatest Jamaican athlete of all time?

  • Leighton Thomas-Shorter

I think thus far he will be the greatest because he being the most popular, the most influential and he has contributed the most in the society and also to the Calabar fraternity and in this regard, I think he is the greatest this far.

  • Keith Lattimore

Yes. He is not only the greatest athlete, but also one the greatest human beings.

I had the opportunity to deal with Herb in the past and I can tell you, I will never see another person as great as Herb McKenley.

  • Pat Anderson

He is not only the greatest Jamaican athlete, but also the greatest athlete the world ever saw. The man was a total man because there is no other athlete that can run the 100m, 200m and 400m at the Olympics. I thought the Queen of England should have knighted him.

  • Carmen Long

I think he is one of the greatest because we have had other athletes who are just as great in other areas. But he is the greatest in track and field.

  • Herb Elliott

By far, he is the greatest. We have had other great athletes that have achieved greatness but when you look at it Herb ran from the 40s until the late 50s and he is the only athlete in the world to reach the finals of the 100m, 200m and 400m in the same Olympics and won medals in two of the three events. (4x400m gold, 100m, 400m silver, 4th in 200m).

  • Locksley Anderson

Yes. There is no doubt about this, he is the greatest of all time. He went to the Olympics and made it to the finals of all three sprints events and won a medal in two of the three events, so definitely the greatest of all time.
