I recently completed a six-month course in 'front-office operations' at the Runaway Bay HEART Hotel and Training Institute (RBH) in St. Ann.

The well-designed and compact course allows the learner to be in charge of his learning with the help of facilitators. It prepares persons aspiring to work in the hospitality industry, such as front desk agents, as well as those wanting careers as secretaries, receptionists and telephone operators, among others.

Congratulations to the HEART Trust/NTA for over 25 years of quality service to Jamaica, during which tremendous growth in training has been achieved. You are giving many Jamaicans the opportunity to realise their potential in contributing to the tourism sector.

I must thank Ms. Janet Dyer, Mrs. Shorna Myrie, Mrs. Claudette Brooks and the rest of the team at RBH for the able way in which they try to mould young minds, and adults too, into becoming world-class workers.

As a physically-disabled person, there were challenges for me at RBH. However, these did not dampen my spirit, neither did it hinder my achievement as I learned from childhood to accept and try to cope with situations.

I implore other disabled citizens who can manage, and even able-bodied, to make use of the opportunities. This is our training agency.
