Negligent parent
published: Wednesday | December 5, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

On Wednesday, November 28, about 5:55 a.m., while standing at the town square in Dalvey, St. Thomas. I saw a little girl, about five years old, coming from Water Lane. She was attacked by dogs from a nearby home. Fortunately, a man came along on his bicycle, rushed to her aid, rescued her and guided her to safety.

The question I would like to ask is: Why did the parents of that child fail to see the danger awaiting her on the street at such wee hours of the morning?

It seems many parents are not paying sufficient attention to the safety of their children; even while walking with their child on the street, they do not hold the child's hand and keep the child on the inside, while they remain on outside, facing the on-coming vehicle.

Parents and guardians need to be more vigilant.

I am, etc.,

J.A. BAILEY
