Metallic, glitter, sheer and embroidery pieces were the highlights of Xtras' display of its holiday collection at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel on Sunday.
Though scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., the show, which started at 7:30 p.m., showcased classy pieces that will be available to customers this week.
The night started with casual tops worn with boot-leg jeans. This segment consisted of mostly delicate coloured and black sleeveless tops.
The 15-minute intermission which followed the end of the casual segment ended with the entrance of a model wearing a sheer, loose-fitting sleeveless grey top with ruffles at the neck and across the chest. There were also pleats at the top area at the back of the blouse. This was worn with grey, wide-legged dress pants.
Elegant evening wear was displayed for the rest of the night.
Fabric combination
A common theme was the combining of fabrics like sheer with metallic, cotton and glitter.
Several black pieces, accentuated with glitter and beads at the neckline, were shown. Bright colours like red, purple, yellow, orange and blue were toned down with black and white and given classy appeal with satin.
Metallics were definitely a hit at the show as several pieces were gold combined with brown or red, as well as a combination of black and silver. One of the pieces which stood out was a loose-fitting, ash-coloured satin dress with embroidery at the neckline, upper back and hemline.
Accessories, shoes and bags were also on display as they are available at Xtras.
The men were not totally outdone by the women as they wore mostly long-sleeved shirts with embroidery at the front and back, as well as bright designs on the pockets of their boot-leg jeans. They also wore pullovers with artistic designs at the front and back.
One of the guests said the clothes looked good but she was not sure if this was due to the models.
This was possible, as the list of models included two former Miss Jamaica World winners, Sara Lawrence and Terri-Karelle Griffith, as well as finalists in the same competition, and male models from Saint International.
