Tarrus Riley - FIle
Glittering lights, music and excited children running wild were the order of the day at the Juici Patties 'Food and Culture Festival' at the Juici Family Park, Clarendon Park on Sunday evening.
A whole-day event the large venue accommodated several activities for the whole family from children's rides to booths featuring Pepsi, Juici Patties, Tru Juice and lots of sumptuous food.
Enjoying the environment
When The Gleaner team arrived at the venue after 6:00 p.m. some patrons sat and watched their children play while others listened to performing arts group, Ashe. The group sang hits from several eras and sampled renditions from several artistes including Marcia Griffiths and Beenie Man.
A soca-filled stint from Fab 5 got the crowd on its feet. To the feigned surprise of some patrons, several children bent over and 'cocked it' up like seasoned dancehall fans. After Fab 5's set there was a slew of soulful selections from the likes of Leroy Gibbons, Ernest Wilson and Felix. To-Isis followed with Alicia Keys No One, African Queen, Ghetto Pain and others before surprise guest Mr. Lex stormed the stage for Taxi Fare. Leroy Sibbles followed as the crowd rocked away to his reggae tunes.
It was from the veteran to the rising star as Jodian Pantry graced the stage with Umbrella, No One and Tami Chynn's Over and Over Again. Pantry got a lively response from the crowd but it was duo of Apache Chief and Sarge who had the crowd in stitches. The
Apache Chief's uproarious impersonations were convincing. Zebra, Dr. Evil and a surprising Lady Saw were enough to satisfy the crowd.
After a brief exit Sarge returned decked out in black and looking like a double for Bounty Killer. Cracking a few 'Beenie and D'Angel' jokes he said: "Angel call and seh if I can tek her back but once I drop it, I don't tek it back."
However, after a long day of fun the crowd was anxious to see the final three acts as Rising Stars winner Romain Virgo got a riotous response from females, young and old. He immediately went into X-Girlfriend as the girls jumped on spot to see that his unbuttoned shirt. Romain soon went into I'm Still In Love, I've Got A Date and a sexy Sexual Healing as he 'rum-rammed' his way into the hearts of women.
Vibes got nicer
Assassin came on next, looking dapper as usual as he deejayed Gully Sitten, Can't Lock Off The Dance and Step Pon Them. As the artiste slowly disrobed for the crowd the women become more enthused.
A large and packed venue soon erupted for the final act, Tarrus Riley who sang his way on stage to Lion Paw. Riley sang Back Biter, Stay With You but had the women begging for She's Royal, which he later performed. At the end of the evening's activities, it was a happy and satisfied crowd that left the venue.
