Taking precautions
published: Monday | November 26, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Please allow me to offer some advice regarding cellphones and credit cards.

The technology exists whereby a mobile phone can be deactivated, all you need to know is the registered number, phone the company and explain that your cellphone has been stolen and you want it immobilised. Regardless of what sim card is placed in it, it will not work.

The credit card is a bit more complicated but for a fee you can make an arrangement with your bank as I did. I will not go into the details here but I am willing to explain to any interested party. Criminals are robbing you and still taking your life, so it makes sense to safeguard your money, at least your next of kin or a named benefactor will benefit.

I hope this information makes the relevant parties take notice.

I am, etc.,
