Direct election for all mayors

The Editor, Sir:

Whichever party wins the parish council elections, I am asking that in the near future that all of Jamaica's mayors be directly elected. Why? I think that there are so many capable and prominent persons in the wider society who can manage the councils' business with much dignity in order for an increase in revenue for community development which is paramount at this time.

In other words, a directly-elected mayor must have the requisite leadership qualities to enhance the councils' financial stability instead of depending on central government for funding.

Mr Editor, it is prudent that a directly-elected mayor should also preside over the entire parish and not just the capital town or city of which he governs.
