NOTE-WORTHY: From Booker T
published: Monday | November 26, 2007

From Booker T

Jamaica's esteemed and versatile Prime Minister, Honourable Bruce Golding, is faced with many problems and difficulties, and I commend to him a quotation from educator and activist, the late Booker T. Washington of the United States of America.

The quotation may aptly be applied to Jamaica. "It seems that one of the most vital questions that touches our American life is how to bring the strong, wealthy and learned into helpful touch with the poorest, most ignorant and humblest, and at the same time make one appreciate the vitalizing strengthening influence of the other". Over to you, Mr. Prime Minister.

Child curfew

If a street curfew will save a child's life, why should anyone be against it. Those who are against, I guess, have no children,or exercise no jurisdiction over theirs. I live in the U.S. and all my kids are in my house by nine p.m., and all their friends are out of my house before then. Good idea.

Bank action

Please publish this letter in protest of the banks' action. They are aware that the monies in question

is not tainted, but they are using these measures to place a doubt in people's minds. How far they will go, because they feel threatened?

Pure spite

I'm kind of curious as to the Government's complete silence on this issue. It seems like anything affecting such a large segment of the population would at least elicit some kind of comment.

As for the issue itself, I would like to endorse the opinion of one of the investors which was printed in your paper - this action is going to backfire on the banks. It looks like pure spite to me.

Justice overboard!

I was most surprised to see The Gleaner headline of November 16 which read 'Lock them up'. I was shocked because I never heard the trial and conviction. Therefore, we are left to assume that the judge made an order to lock up the prisoner without trial and conviction. This is not right in the sight of God or man. "They who rule over men must be just and rule in the fear of God" 2 Sam. 23:36. We hold no brief for anyone, save the truth.

However, the truth is, if we can lock up persons by our feelings, this is not representing God, justice, truth or unity and if it is so, we are going to ruin this country. God help us, our Lord Jesus said "Let him without sin cast the first stone," in this we would all be on the same side. To the woman he said, "go sin no more." This applies to all of us - JLP, PNP etc. One Jamaica - peace, love, unity.
