The mayor and the park
published: Saturday | November 24, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I am surprised that this incident is 'new' to His Worship the Mayor. I am of the opinion that he is very current with the state of the park, as last year Christmas a well organised effort was put into the Christmas celebration. The highlight of this magnificent feat was the awe of the Christmas Tree.

This situation has been around for quite some time as not only rapes, but robberies and murders have been committed in the park. The growing problem of securing the citizens of Jamaica is indeed a challenging problem. But to say he the mayor has no knowledge of these atrocities is not flattering to his tenure.

Face the facts and put the tough talk into action. The country has the resources to at least safeguard the persons who use the park. If we start with the park and make it uneasy for these poachers to lie in ambush, then at least Jamaica will see that His Worship is able to walk the walk and not just talk.

I am, etc.,
