Fill a pothole near you today
published: Sunday | November 18, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Everyone talks about the state of our roads, and complains that the Government does not step up repairs. However, as citizens, we do not only have civic rights, we also have civic duties.

Instead of crying for the Government to fix everything at the same time - an impossible task to do - if every houseowner would just fix the very pothole in front of his/her house, we would all be able to properly drive through our streets again.

Then, the Government could concentrate on the main roads and bridges, and the repair job would be completed much quicker. Sometimes, as citizens, we have to step up to the plate and stop crying for 'the State'.

We are the State, and everyone can contribute to making this island a better place. Don't cry for 'them. Don't wait, fill a pothole, and in one or two weeks we can drive again without needing to become slalom artists.

I am, etc.,

ANNE ARTHUR
