published: Sunday | November 18, 2007

Smiley (left) and Michigan. - Contributed

SG: Have you guys broken up?

Michigan: Never.

So, then, why haven't you guysperformed in Jamaica for years?

Michigan: Smiley lives in America and I live in Jamaica. I actually just came from Los Angeles where I performed with Smiley at the 'Dub Club'. We got three encores, which is excellent. It's just that we are in different boundaries, but we never broke up.

So, why don't you guys get together more often?

Michigan: That's what me and Smiley were talking about. I tell him he needs to get back to his roots, but still him don't lose his culture. Him need to come back to Jamaica to get ting together.

Smiley: The last time we performed together in Jamaica was at Reggae Sunsplash in 1996. What happen was dat I was in Jamaica for dat time, At the end of 1999, my house burnt down, so I came to the United States. I lost all my possessions. I've been working to rebuild my company. Hopefully, I will be in Jamaica at the end of next year.

The last time you performed wasat Rebel Salute. Why that show?

Michigan: Me alone did that show and a friend of mine accompanied me on stage for moral support. Rebel Salute is a cultural show. Rebel Salute is befitting for us.

Do you guys perform separately?

Michigan: I've performed a couple of times without him, wid a friend of mine. It's not a division between us; it's just a matter of unavailability.

Smiley: As a matter of fact I did a tour solo. I do tours around San Diego. My company is booking a tour for the both of us for next year right now.
