ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):
FIVE UNCAPPED players have been named in a 23-member West Indies squad for a training camp at the High Performance Centre on the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Patrick Browne, off-spin bowler Amit Jaggernauth, Jamaica batsman Brenton Parchment, as well as fast bowlers Nelon Pascal and Kemar Roach have all been included in the squad from which the final 15 for tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa will be chosen.
West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and embattled batting all-rounder Marlon Samuels have not been included because of injuries and the selectors are awaiting word on their fitness. Browne has been the regular Barbados gloveman since the retirement of his namesake, Courtney, last year.
Strong rival
He has had a few series with the 'A' team and is considered a strong rival to regular Windies 'keeper Denesh Ramdin.
Parchment has been rewarded following steady performances in regional competitions over the last year.
He tied with T&T's Lendl Simmons for the fourth highest batting aggregate in the recent KFC Cup, and he was one of the main reasons Jamaica broke their drought and won the title for the first time in eight years.
