MAGICAL evening
published: Friday | November 9, 2007

Twas Fab 5 playing, guests dancing, gentlemen in tuxedos dapper-looking, ladies in ball gowns shining. Yes, the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Civic Affairs committee charity ball was a hit again!

This is one ball that goes ahead regardless of the weather outside, and the events leading up to it has been postponed 'til next year'. This was the 26th consecutive and the fun never stopped. This year's event was given the title 'Magic in the Moonlight', and the hex of enjoyment was difficult, no, impossible, to reverse. As guests were making their way up the red carpet and out of the intermittent rain, Floyd Ffolkes kept them entertained with his repertoire. Ladies were presented with roses, courtesy of the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, the only venue with the privilege of hosting this event.

Once the party band Fab 5 got going, it was non-stop dancing, the only break coming for dinner. In cabaret, guests were awed by the voice of Keisha Patterson (her red dress as stunning as her vocal chords) and the showmanship of Dwight Richards, who not only sang but trumpeted his way around the floor. And with the proceeds going to various charities, one could enjoy without feeling guilty!

Guests at this brilliant ball included: Mexican Ambassador Leonora Rueda, deputy head of mission at the Venezuelan Embassy Madai Hernandez and husband Marcelo, Tony and Yvonne Ray, Dr. Aggrey Irons and wife Jacqueline, Wayne Lawrence, Clovis and Hermine Metcalfe, Scarlette Gillings, Donald and Valerie Baugh, Rosa Joseph, Marilyn Bennett, Pauline Stone Myrie, Matisse Lindo, Cecile Henry, Kamiesha Pennant, Noreen Charlton and Pearl Pottinger and several scores more.

Right: Never ones to shy away from the dance floor, Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie and wife Marcia get close.
