published: Thursday | November 8, 2007

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

THE JAMAICA Table Tennis Association's (JTTA) Northwest Development National Table Tennis Club League continued on Tuesday night with two Division Two matches played and two others decided by default.

Former champions Cable & Wireless I blanked visitors Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club II 3-0 at YMCA and UTech defeated newcomers Hy-Performance 3-0 at the UTech auditorium.

In the matches decided by default, another former champion, Pembroke Hall, claimed the points from Cable & Wireless II who failed to show and JDF conceded points to Enson United in their match scheduled for Up Park Camp.

In the Cable & Wireless I versus Windalco KSC II encounter, Ricardo Richards trounced reigning inter-bauxite champion George Hyman 3-0 and Maurice Stewart overpowered Peter Kavanaugh 3-0 in singles matches. In doubles, Robert Gabay and Stewart crushed brothers Everette and Peter Kavanaugh 3-0.

Wins

National junior representative and member of the All-island champion school, Wolmer's Boys, Michael Cai, won two matches for UTech against Hy-Performance. He eased past Robert Hyatt 3-0 and Mark Phillips 3-0 in singles matches.

Tyrone Gordon and Lincoy Small clipped Phillips and Don-Walker Petinaud 3-2 in doubles action to secure the third match for UTech. Petinaud later stunned Small 3-0 to pull one back for Hy-Performance.

The tournament, which began on October 30, will continue until January 20.

Division Two matches will be played on Tuesday evenings, the women's division on Wednesdays, Division Three on Thursdays, Division Four on Fridays and Division One on Saturdays.

One match is scheduled per week for division One and Two teams, with the other divisions having some free weeks in the fixtures.

Four women's teams, five D1, 10 D2, 12 D3 and four D4 teams have entered the competition.

Today, four Division Three matches will be played. Iyante will host UWI at Eleven Miles, Bull Bay. Many-time champions Pembroke Hall will be at home to Windalco KSC I at the Community Centre, Juici Patties will entertain Hy-Performance at Clarendon Park and Windalco KSC II will travel to Up Park Camp to oppose JDF.
