NOTE-WORTHY: Praising UCH
published: Thursday | November 8, 2007

Praising UCH

Public institutions are seldom commended for the performance of their duties, but I have had three good experiences with the Accident and Emergency Department at UCH since returning to Jamaica almost a year ago.

My father passed through their initial treatment on two occasions prior to admittance for a heart attack. His treatment by the medical staff was exemplary. More recently in October, my mother fell seriously ill. I had no hesitation in taking her by Ambucare ambulance directly to the A & E. By the time I parked the car and returned to the A & E, my mother was in bed with oxygen, IV, and hooked up to a monitor. The staff worked very hard to keep her alive. Unfortunately, she passed away five hours after admittance.

In all of this, my father and I were treated very compassionately as we went through the trauma. Thank you, A & E.

Commish choice

I think the new Police Commissioner should be chosen from among the many assistant Commissioners. We should stop the practice of appointing people from abroad. We already have Mark Shields and others. I am 100 per cent certain that there are competent police officers in the force. We need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Bigga Ford for Commish

After listening to 'All Angles' on October 21, and 'Impact' on October 31, I am compelled to write petitioning that Det. Superintendent Cornwall (Bigga) Ford be appointed Commissioner of Police.

I believe Mr. Ford has distinguished himself as most suitable for this position. Based on the fact that I believe that to be effective in this job of leading this organisation, there needs to be strong support from all sectors of the society.

Based on what is heard on the streets daily my view is that Mr. Ford is in the best position to deal with drug trafficking, (particularly cocaine) gun running, extortion and murder.

He would also be most effective in identifying and dealing with corrupt cops. Mr. Ford, as word has it one the streets, has a wealth of experience in these critical areas and it is for these reasons that I am calling on all Jamaicans to support my call for top crime fighter 'Bigga' Ford as Police Commissioner.
