The Editor, Sir:
I want to use this opportunity to commend Mr. John Mahfood on an advertorial he wrote recently in relation to the high level of crime in Jamaica. He was basically calling for a consolidated effort to stem crime in the country which is at an alarmingly high level at four murders a day.
I only hope that he is serious about wanting to assist in curtailing crime and not just talking for talking sake. For too long, the religious leaders and leaders of the business community have turned a blind eye to this escalating problem. They have basically taken the stance that it is not affecting them directly, so it is not their concern. There is so much more that can be done and only through a unified effort as suggested by Mr. Mahfood can this be effective.
I am, etc.,
