The Editor, Sir:
My grandparents were card-carrying members of the People's National Party. My father, although not as active as my grandparents, was also a PNP voter and 'defender' and so in time, I too became a PNP voter and have always done so.
On September 3, I voted JLP. I did so in good conscience. I was drifting for the last five years because of the scandals, but the straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I heard Mr. Paul Burke from a PNP platform saying, "my leader never beat her husband yet", "my leader never run from ganja plane yet - run like thief from ganja plane". When I heard those comments, a 'light bulb' went off in my head. I knew that I had to balance what was true and right against party loyalty and political propaganda.
You see Mr. Editor, I have become a Christian and I now know that "whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer" (1 John 3:15). I now know whom cannot be trusted (with the truth), who is hungry for power and will stoop to to the lowest gutter to retain it. I am convinced that the People's National Party is a cult and that its tentacles are mind-altering. My task now is to re-educate my children. My father must be turning in his grave. Sorry, I loved and respected you papa, but you taught me to be an independent thinker and to always uphold the truth.
I am, etc.,
