The Editor, Sir:America, through its system of laws, gives people the right to bear arms. Over the years, this right has effectively taken away other people's right to live. Victims as well as perpetrators have suffered as a result of this 'right'. Tell me world, doesn't Jamaica have the right to decide what we want to teach our children?
American tells its children not to pray at school, it removed the Ten Commandments, children can't give their friends hugs, a teacher can't console a distraught child. However, they are mandated to teach that two women and two men who choose to live together are an acceptable family option.
Well today, I want to go on record to 'big up' our educators who have decided to take a stand as to what we teach our children. Jamaica has enough 'crosses' with the crime and violence that has taken hold of our nation. We need not add one more to our list of sins by teaching what has been expressly stated in the Holy Bible as a wrong, a moral wrong. Not because the world accepts it, doesn't mean that Jamaica has to. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating that people go stoning gay persons; however, just as America doesn't want children being taught about God in a classroom, Jamaica shouldn't be expected to teach children about homosexuality in the classroom either.
'moral wrong'
America says people should be allowed to choose what, and whether or not they believe in God outside of the classroom; so should Jamaica have the right to decide where they want their children to learn about the 'moral wrong' that is homosexuality. School is supposed to be a place where right morals and standards and truths, not wrongs, are taught.
Philippians 4:8 says "finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
These are the things we are called upon to teach our children. Our children have been fed with enough evil and moral wrongs through the great 'black box', the tv. What we need is not an education in gay culture, but rather an education in the nobler, true and purer things of life.
To the 'disturbed and angered' so-called Jamaicans living in foreign - aren't you disturbed and angered by the fact that truth has been changed into lies, wrong has become right, and good, now bad in the country you have decided to call home. The country you have decided to call home gives gays the right to start clubs at schools but a Christian group has to get special permission to meet.
Since you are so ashamed of what we are teaching our Jamaican children why don't you renounce your citizenship so that you won't have to be Jamaican anymore and suffer any more anger and disturbance?
