Issue: Gays now 'standing together' in Jamaica
published: Saturday | November 3, 2007

One of Jamaica's rising issues is that of homo-sexuality, which is viewed by many people in Jamaica, as a negative and unnatural act. However, many countries have come to terms with understanding and accepting homosexuals. So what's happening with Jamaica?

In present Jamaica, homosexual sex is illegal under the Buggery Act, but other factors that contribute to homosexuality still being illegal in Jamaica are the Church and Christianity, which is the most dominant religion in the Jamaican society. The Church speaks negatively about homo-sexuality while there are pastors, priests and ministers who are gay and living a homosexual lifestyle.

Second, the Government which is there to represent the people, refuses to bring justice to our fellow brothers and sisters who are losing their lives because of their sexuality. The entertainment business also contributes to the negative impact on homosexuals in Jamaica. Some entertainers who may be gay continue to sing anti-gay songs in order to avoid speculation.

Gays and lesbians all over Jamaica are now standing together.
