Subs Lowe, Davis lift Portmore
published: Monday | October 29, 2007

Despite the use of their third coach for the season, the trouble continued for Village United yesterday as they remained winless. Playing at home on the sixth day of a full schedule of matches, the Trelawny-based team lost 1-2 to Portmore United to remain on one point from six games.

Fabian Dawkins opened the scoring for Village United in the 23rd minute, before Rudolph Austin, the 60th minute and Kevin Deerr in the 64th minute piloted the visitors to safety.

Despite looking the better of the two teams for most of the match, Portmore United, which started with Onandi Lowe and Fabian Davis on the bench, found themselves trailing in the 23rd minute through a header from Dawkins.

Lowe entered the field of play in the 46th minute and was immediately involved. Fifteen minutes into the game he was fouled by Bernard about five yards outside the 18-yard box. Austin converted the free kick.

Four minutes later, Portmore were to go ahead. Substitute Davis found the head of Deerr who nodded home.

"It was encouraging that the team came out and fought, which showed some character and in the end we could have won by a wider margin. But we are satisfied with the points," said Christopher Bender, their assistant coach.

Village coach Fitzroy Reid said: "We gave up easy chances which we spoke about in training but this is work in progress."
