Tivoli ease past Reno
published: Monday | October 29, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Tivoli Gardens registered their second win of the season when they comfortably got by Reno 2-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday.

Calmly holding their own for most of the first half, Reno were pushed on to the back foot by the home team in stoppage time. Oraine Simpson beat Reno custodian Dennis Alcor from the spot after fleet-footed striker Horace Howell was brought down in the area by Kendrie Quarrie. Much to the horror of the St. James team, who started the second half in a positive fashion, the troublesome Howell extended the lead in the 66th minute.

Flashing to the far post, the striker launched his head into a Simpson square whipped across goal, which saw the ball rocket into the back of the net.

"It wasn't the best brand of football today, but maybe the bad weather had something to do with it," said Tivoli coach Glendon Bailey. "We had a better second than first half, I think the changes made had a big impact and we are happy for the points."

Reno, however, certainly had their fair share of opportunities to find the back of the net. "We don't want to blame the officiating because we got our chances, but we had a tough time with the officials today," said Reno coach Wendell Downswell.
