Teacher killer gets 12 years
published: Monday | October 29, 2007

Barbara Gayle, Staff Reporter

A man who stabbed a teacher three times in the chest was last week sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for manslaughter.

Fabian McDermott, 23, of Paradise Street, Kingston 16, was charged with the murder of 37-year-old Delta Bailey, of Manley Meadows, Kingston 2, but he pleaded guilty to the lesser offence. The deceased was a teacher at the Windward Road Primary and Junior High School.

Mr. Justice Bertram Morrison (acting) sentenced McDermott after hearing a lengthy mitigation plea from defence lawyer Michael Lorne.
