The Editor, Sir:God's richest blessings to you and your staff. I am writing to you from Grand Cayman.
There was a story that was in the September 26th edition of The Gleaner titled 'Hazel Simms: fighting a storm of calamities', and it was very touching to me. I had a little money saved towards a surgery on my foot, CI$375.00 and when I read Ms. Hazel's story, I started to cry because it pulled at my heart. I said to myself, God did not make me stop at the Esso this morning October 3 to purchase your newspaper without a reason and I guess Ms. Hazel was my reason. I called Courts in Old Harbour and spoke to a young lady there about trying to purchase a deep freeze for Ms. Hazel and her four grandchildren. She quoted me the price of J$35,530.20 for a 9-cubic deep freeze. I needed CI$60.20 to add up to the amount (by the way I work on a construction site). I went outside to the workers (God bless them) and collected CI$2.00 from each one until I got the $60.20, went to the Quick Cash and sent off the money for the deep freeze. We would like to thank you for writing this story so that we were at least able to give Ms. Hazel and her grandchildren a little help. May God continue to bless her and her grandchildren and likewise everyone on the islands of Jamaica and Cayman.
I am, etc.,
